Farewell Post

Nothing is forever so unfortunately my blogging at CSU Stanislaus has ended. As I write my last post, I’m reflecting on the journey I’ve taken my readers for the past two years. Starting from telling you about myself to my academic, extra-curricular involvement, and personal experiences. College is a chapter of my life that I will hold dear to my heart because these five years were simply amazing. Of course, it was full of ups and downs but I would not trade it for anything. I was able to develop and grow to the person I am today. I learned to embrace who I am and push myself to exceed my expectations.

It saddens me to leave a place I called home for five years especially leave my friends and sorority sisters. Yet, it is time to move on. I’m not sure what God has in store for me but I trust His plan. I want to thank Alyssa Mazzina for giving me the opportunity to blog. Thanks to that I was able to share a little of what college is all about and the many benefits of going to college. Also, thank you to the team of bloggers. I enjoyed reading your post and I appreciate you reading mine and commenting as well. I wish you all the best of luck and continue sharing your experiences.

Good luck with your future endeavors!

Finals

One of the most dreaded times of the semester FINALS!

Coffee, energy drinks, and sweets are popular during this time because they help me and many other students stay awake. Sleep becomes a luxury where if you get 4 hours of sleep consider yourself lucky. It’s a very stressful time where finals, papers, and other assignments pile up. Yet, it means it’s almost the end of the semester and summer vacation is almost here.

Last week was very hectic. Although, it was not finals week my teachers decided to have assignments and tests that week. Each day, I probably got 0-4 hours of sleep. Monday, I had my research paper due. Tuesday, I had three study logs due. Wednesday, I had to study for a test and finish my seven page final paper due Thursday. I could not wait for the week to be over. I was so happy to be able to get a good night sleep on Thursday night. My bed missed me all week.

Now, this week I have a paper and two finals due. After Thursday I am done with the semester and with my undergraduate degree.  It’s bitter sweet but I know graduating means the closing of a chapter but the start of a new one. Will see what God has in store for me.

How are your finals going?

Warrior Day

Warrior day has been a tradition for over fifty years at CSU Stanislaus. It is one of the most anticipated events in the Spring Semester. It’s a day to have fun and enjoy the company of your friends. This event is held on a Friday and all classes after 12 are cancelled so students can and enjoy the festivities. Usually, there is various of activities going on such as; henna tattoos, caricatures, zip lining, and more. Another source of entertainment is music. Smaller bands and Dj’s perform before the main artist. The main artist this year was Far East Movement and they sure put on a show. One of them put on a sumo wrestler costume. They had a duck, beach balls, and confetti they threw to the crowd, and two of them crowd surfed. I loved how they engaged the crowd and even invited people on stage. For my last warrior day, it sure was the most memorable. I’m glad I got to spend it with great friends and sisters. Below are some pictures.

Sorority Advisor

I’ve been involved in various clubs and from experience, I know that having a supportive advisor really helps with the success of the organization. Frank Borrelli has been our advisor for two years and he has made sure to support us 100%. I call him our number one fan because he takes so much pride on everything we do and promotes every event we have to his colleagues. He is not only there for business support but for personal support as well. I have reached out to him for advice and he always makes time to listen and offer any help he can give. He believes in us even when we don’t.

He has truly been a huge help and through his sense of humor and positivity he pushes us to make sure we reach our fullest potential. We couldn’t have asked for a better advisor. That is why I wanted to dedicate a post to him because of all the time and commitment he has put in. This past Friday we had the Student Leadership Awards and he made sure to be there to support us as an organization and as individuals because he nominated other sisters and I for other categories. I thank him for all the support and hope he is our advisor for many more years.

Frozen

Do you want to build a snowman?

One of the most popular lines in the movie that has many singing along. This is one of my favorite movies. I went to watch it in theater’s with my sorority sister Cecilia. After that I’ve probably watched it 3 more times. I can’t get tired of Olaf. Olaf is my favorite character. He is so funny and sweet. He stole my heart with his heart melting lines such as; “some people are worth melting for” or ” I like warm hugs” and many more funny sayings.

When I went home this past week I had plenty of movie nights with my niece and one of the movies we watched was Frozen. I still get excited to see this movie each time. Then when I came back to Turlock some of sorority sisters kept talking about it or singing songs from the movie and I just keep getting reminded of how cute this movie is. I have probably annoyed my roommates as I randomly start singing ” Do you want to build a snowman” but you got to admit it’s pretty catchy.

Spring Break

Where did the week go???

I haven’t even started my to-do list. Well, my spring break has not consisted of traveling, beach, nor anything crazy. I went back home to see my family on Saturday and stayed there till Wednesday. I was able to spend quality time with my mom and sisters. Also, I was able to go shopping for my sorority banquet. I finally found my dress, heels, and jewelry. In this case men have it easier when it comes to finding clothes. I’m a bit “jelly” for how easy it is for them to find something formal. Unlike women, it can be a challenge and trying a million dresses can get tiring. Luckily, my mom helped me and I was able to get everything for a good price.

Now, back to my homework to-do list. I’m suppose to start my research paper, read for three of my English classes, work on my study logs, and read a book. Now, have I started this? no. Time is running out so I know I need to step it up. I got two more days and the weekend. It’s possible, right?

Wish me luck!

Favorite Healthy Eating Instagram Accounts

I’m not sure if you have noticed but this whole healthy eating hype is becoming more popular among many people my age. Not a day passes by without me seeing a post of someone who is posting a picture of their meals, workouts, followed by a million hashtags ( #healthyeating #fitlife #motivation, etc). Nothing wrong with that, I’m glad people are taking the initiative to live a better life but it seems like everyone decided to make that decision at the same time. Personally, I’m trying to eat better and exercise more but I don’t like posting it in social media unless I accomplished a fitness goal.

One day I was having dinner with a sister and she started talking about how she follows several Instagram accounts that give healthy recipe ideas.  That has helped her start cooking healthier. She showed me the account, it seemed interesting so I started following it. After that, I started following more accounts on healthy eating and I’ve been wanting to try out several recipes. Yet, time makes it more challenging to cook but below are my top 3 since their recipes are simple and delicious.

  1. College Cookin- very helpful and targeted to help college students eat healthy with a budget. They have great ideas that anyone can try for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
  2. Your daily Shake- if your into smoothies this account is for you! I seriously hope to try making as many of their shake ideas. They look so delicious and healthy.
  3. Healthy Young and Happy- another great account full of delicious ideas to try at home.

I hope this helps if your interested in living a healthy lifestyle.

Team M & M!!!

It is that time of the year again ASI (Associated Students Incorporated) Elections!!!

This is where candidates run to be the next president, vice president, or be a representative for their college in order to serve in the ASI Board of Directors and be able to be the voice of students. Personally, I love the organization because I have been involved in ASI since my freshman year in college. I started as a programming volunteer where I got to be part of the planning (Code Red Entertainment) process of the many events that happened on campus throughout the year. It was really fun and a great way to start my involvement in college. I did that for three years and after I decided to try something new and be part of student government. I decided to run for the board director position to represent the College of Education and I’m currently still in office.

During my programming experience, I got to meet Mariam Salameh and Marvin Hooker where I developed a personal relationship with them. I know them on a personal and professional level due to my involvement in both programming and student government. I have seen them grow to the leaders they are today. I have seen them work hard campaigning for countless hours in order to be able to represent the student body. As a member of the board, I have seen their passion and commitment for the campus and student body. I’m so proud of their accomplishments and could assure you they will accomplish way more if their given the opportunity again because they will keep on fighting for students.

I know who I am voting for on April 28 and 29th! Please, get informed.

Go like their page so you can see all they have accomplished and what they are planning to accomplish if re-elected. Below is the link:

Come and Support!

Come and Support!

Since my freshman year I’ve been involved in Teatro Los Hijos Del Campo (sons of farmworkers) a theater group on-campus focused on doing  skits that promote political and social awareness in a humorous. The profits for these performances go to our scholarship fund dedicated to help serve graduating High School seniors and current college students. Typically, we try to have two performances per year but this year were are having just one this coming Friday. It should be a great night of poetry, music, and acting. Personally, I’ll be part of the skits so I will be practicing all week. If you want to come check out the details on the flyer.

Top 5 Sorority Moments

April marks my two year anniversary of being a member of Alpha Pi Sigma. This means I have less than two months left to enjoy my membership as an undergraduate. These two years have flown and I have enjoyed every moment. I’m going to truly miss seeing my sisters every week, rush week, socials, community service, fundraisers, and Greek life. Once I start the next chapter of my life it won’t be the same. I know the sisterhood will be everlasting but the Greek life is not. Yet, all good things come to an end so there is room for greater ones to come (that’s what I need to keep telling myself).

Below is a list of my top five sorority moments in no particular order. It was very hard to choose that I wanted to create a top 10; but I figured I would keep it short and simple.

Where my journey as a member started. Pledging with these girls was one heck of a ride. Our bond grew stronger and stronger throughout the years. I love them all. Gamma Class <3

My sisters gave me the opportunity to be the candidate for the annual Mr. and Mrs. Greek Competition. It was a memorable experience. (I find a picture with all my sisters)

Getting my Little. I was so happy to finally get one and be given the opportunity to guide her throughout the process and form a connection with such a beautiful and smart lady like her.

One of the many retreats I got to experience. This is where we get to bond as a chapter and learn more about ourselves and the organization.
